Forge World Squads - "Bundle" Overview

As you all know, I'm a major fan of Forge World's products. I may not buy a heap from them due to the price (I live in Australia, though one can argue it's cheaper to buy from Forge World than it is to buy from Games Workshop haha), however I do constantly visit their site and "research" their products. By "research" I mean look at the price and try and find the most value for my dollar. I'm still a customer and money cannot be acquired straight from my arse!!

Lately, Forge World have been offering "Squads" for sale, which I call a "Bundle", because that's what it is. Take the Legion Tactical Squads; it's 3 Squads of 10, including Bolters and 1 Command Set. That's basically 6 Space Marine Packs and 3 Bolter Packs with 1 Command Set. It's a bundle and surprisingly cheaper than buying all components separate. But not all these bundles are worth it.

So what I will do is list all their "Squads" or "Bundle" packs available and show the price and separate component pricing, as well as give my opinion on their worth. You can be the judge whether or not you buy them. Remember to check postage costs as well.

INFANTRY OF THE HORUS HERESY
Legion MkII Tactical Squad
Price: £160.00
Component Price: £180.00
Comments: Depending on what you fancy your Space Marines to wear, this or the MkIII may be your best buy. Firstly it comes with 3 Squads of 10. If you're using the standard Codex (Space Marines, Space Wolves etc) you've automatically filled out the core of your army. That's 3 Squads of Grey Hunters right there, and we all know how awesome Grey Hunters are (most people would take 3 Squads). But since they are Horus Heresy, you've got 3 Squads of 10 Veteran Tactical Squads (one of the best units in the Legion Army List). Or better yet, buy 2 packs of these and you'll get 3 Squads of 20 Tactical Marines!!! Brilliant I say!!

Legion MkIII Tactical Squad
Price: £160.00
Component Price: £180.00
Comments: Same comments as the MkII above. Though I prefer the MkIII Armour more, it just looks better.

Legion MkIV Tactical Squad
Price: £160.00
Component Price: £180.00
Comments: Now here comes if iffy part and is really best left to what you feel like. MkIV armour has already been released a long time ago by Forge World, in the guise of the Red Scorpions with Veteran Sergeant Haas Upgrade Pack. Each pack comes with 10 MkIV bodies and 1 extra upgrade for the Sergeant; so that's basically 11 bodies and heads. This would cost you £51. Then say you buy 3 Space Marine Tactical Squads from Games Workshop £69. That'll give you the equivalent of the image below, just with extra spare parts like Special Weapons. Total price £120. It's up to how pedantic you are really.

Legion Cataphractii Terminators with Power Fists
Price: £176.00
Component Price: £196.00
Comments: The only difference between both bundles, is either you want Power Fists or Power Axes. Unfortunately, Power Axes are pretty worthless, gaming wise (if you compare the 2). Both weapons strike last, with the Power Fist doubling your strength. The Power Axes look beautiful however. One funny thing is, is that I've seen some really simple and nifty conversions that use Wolf Guard Terminators and Grey Knight Terminators weapons and shields on these Cataphractii Terminators. Basically to make Heresy-Era Wolf Guard, they use Storm Shields and stick em on the Cataphractii's arm and maybe use Grey Knight's Nemesis Force Weapons on the right. Apparently they fit perfectly there (emphasis on the word apparently). I've seen one conversion, but it was painted and had no explanation, I just recognised the parts, so don't take my word for this.

SPACE MARINE LEGION DREADNOUGHTS
Legion Contemptor Dreadnought Talon
Price: £120.00
Component Price: £140.00
Comments: I LOVE Contemptor Dreadnoughts. They look fantastic and are just beautifully AWESOME. Problem is, I hate this Bundle. Only due to the arms it comes with. The Power Fists/Claw are nice, and no complaints there but the Multi-Melta, Heavy Bolter and Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon, well they're not my first choice. Actually I don't mind the Assault Cannon. Personally. Personally, I'd pay the extra £20 so I can get exactly the items I want. Like 2 Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon/Twin-Linked Autocannons, 2 Power Fists/Claws and maybe instead of the Relic Contemptor the Emperor's Children, Death Guard or World Eaters Contemptor. Like I said before, it's up to how pedantic you are really.

SPACE MARINE LEGION HEAVY SUPPORT
Legion MkII Heavy Support Squad Set 1
Price: £122.00
Component Price: £140.00
Comments: This would be really awesome if I actually get the weapons I want. Like maybe 4 Heavy Bolter Packs instead of the Missile Launcher and Lascannon. Ok, the weapon choices aren't that bad. But could be better. I guess I wouldn't mind picking this up. As I said before, it's up to how pedantic you are really.

Legion MkII Heavy Support Squad Set 2
Price: £122.00
Component Price: £140.00
Comments: Ok really, Forge World knows about that multiple sets are nice. And unfortunately, this weapon set is actually worse. The Autocannons are much loved and I have no issues, but I hate Infantry with Multi Meltas or Plasma Cannons. Not worth it, would rather have 4 Autocannon Packs instead. One again, it's up to how pedantic you are really.

Legion MkIII Heavy Support Squad Set 1
Price: £122.00
Component Price: £140.00
Comments: Same comments as the MkII Set 1 above. Though I prefer the MkIII Armour more, it just looks better.

Legion MkIII Heavy Support Squad Set 2
Price: £122.00
Component Price: £140.00
Comments: Same comments as the MkII Set 2 above. Though I prefer the MkIII Armour more, it just looks better.

Legion MkIV Heavy Support Squad Set 1
Price: £122.00
Component Price: £140.00
Comments: Once more I have to argue the Red Scorpions with Veteran Sergeant Haas Upgrade Pack. With that and the Space Marine Tactical Squad, I can then buy whatever weapon options I want (specifically either Heavy Bolter or Autocannon). Unfortunately, if you want one of the shoulder mounted Heavy Weapons (Multi Melta, Lascannon, Plasma cannon or Missile Launcher), you're gonna need the Forge World MkIV Packs instead.
