MechWarrior: Online - Cataphract Ilya Muromets Theory Build (Tri-BOOM)

Right now, I have a very unhealthy obsession with Shotguns... Seriously, what's not to love about things going BOOM!! My favourite Elemental Shotgun in Borderlands 2 is Explosives! Admittedly I half hate that element cause of what Handsome Jack did... But Shotguns that shoot fricken rockets man!!

Actually we get Shotguns that do shoot rockets, in the form of SRMs. But forget SRMs, what about the unloved LB 10-X Autocannon? This is a new theory build that I've been meaning to try (still haven't got round to it).
I reject the current Meta and substitute... errr... something else!! Now check out this build!!
Note: I honestly believe you should have Speed Tweak unlocked for this Mech before trying out these builds. Any Cataphract (CTF-4X not withstanding) should never have a speed slower than 64kph in my honest opinion.

I don't actually buy any XL Engines. All the XL Engines I have come from Mechs I own. Which means that I've opted to use a XL260 since I really can't be bothered wasting CBills on an XL265. However if you do have a XL265, use that instead.

Anyway; a long time ago...
way back in history, when all there was to drink was nothing but cups of tea (can you guess the game where this song came from?)
...I fought another player with triple LB 10-X Autocannons. He used it quite effectively, and literally tore open my Ilya Muromets. Since then I've been meaning to try one, but never got round to it. I did build it however. Figured I should post it for others to try.

With 12 vs. 12 now in play, I really do believe there will be ammunition difficulties, even with 6 Tons of Ammo. However when I use my favourite Jagermech build, I don't actually run out of ammunition all that much.

The reason for this is; originally I carried enough ammunition to kill around 6 to 8 Mechs. Now there are another 4 Mechs I have to kill on the battlefield. However on my team I also have 4 extra Mechs. These extra 4 guys compensate for my ammunition. They should theoretically be able to kill 4 Mechs right? I don't carry my team, I work in tandem.

I don't think that made any sense, but that's my theory as to why I don't think I need more ammo. But then, this is all theory and theory is different to practicality!!

This version reduces its speed and 1 Ton of very valuable Ammo for some much needed LRM protection. Admittedly with Speed Tweak this Mech is moving at around 65kph.

I won't be using this version since I don't want to but an XL255. Also thanks to 12 vs. 12, this build would theoretically have major ammunition difficulties.

Anyway if anyone tries these builds, be sure to comment here how you found it! I'd really love to know your experience with triple LB 10-X ACs!!

  1. This build looks like a lot of fun! Any chance something similar will fit on a non-hero mech?

    1. As far as I'm aware, the Ilya is the only Mech with Ballistic Hardpoints in 3 different areas (RA, LA and RT). All other Mechs only have Ballistics in only 2 areas.

The closest thing you'd get to this build is 2 LB10Xs on say; any Jagermech or Cataphract CTF-3D/CTF-4X.

    2. Oh I forgot!

The Jagermech JM6-A might be the next best alternative come to think of it! I think it can do 2 LB10Xs and 4 SRM4s. I am so building this! Thanks for the idea!!
